Cindy Tao is a member of the Canadian Youth Chinese Orchestra, and a dizi player. Cindy started learning dizi in 2019 and immediately fell in love with
its melodious sound and exquisite performing gestures. After moving to Toronto, she is studying dizi with her dizi teacher Lipeng Wu. While progressing quickly, Cindy performed in Canadian Chinese Orchestra’s annual concerts and recitals.

Sky Yang

Sky Yang is currently 14 years old. In his free time, he likes to compose and play music. He plays a variety of Chinese and Western instruments, like the erhu, suona, piano, bass clarinet and bassoon. Not only is Sky a part of numerous Chinese orchestras, but he has also won several awards for composing music on the provincial and national level. In the future, he hopes to compose more jazz, orchestra, and Chinese music. He loves public speaking. Throughout his early years, Sky developed an interest in the speech arts. He has won many awards in the public speaking category at the North York Music Festival and has also competed in public speaking competitions. Furthermore, he has been given many opportunities to star in TV shows and broadcasting.

Doris Hua is 17 years old. She started violin at the age of 4, but started lessons with Mr. Tak Ng Lai at the age of 5. Currently the concertmaster of CSYO, she enjoyed touring through Europe as a soloist in 2017. She received her ARCT honours diploma in violin performance in the Winter of 2019.

TINA SIEVERS, violin 2
Tina Sievers is 12 years old and has been studying violin since the age of 4 with Wendy Seravalle-Smith at the Thornhill School of Suzuki String Teaching. Tina has won four gold medal awards from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) and received first class honour with distinction for RCM exams grades 5-9. In the annual OMFA Provincial Competition she was awarded first place in 2019 (grade 7 upper strings), second place in 2020 (grade 8 upper strings), and third place in 2018 and 2021 (grade 6 and grade 9 upper strings). Tina’s orchestral experience includes CSYO (2018-2019), the Mooredale Senior Youth Orchestra (2019-2020), and the Suzuki Association of the Americas Youth Orchestra (May 2016 and May 2018). She is currently a member of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra.

HARMONY HO, violin 3
Harmony Ho is fifteen years old and has been with CSYO for eight years. She plays and studies violin under Tak Ng Lai. Harmony is an active member in the strings orchestra at school and has been the recipient of the music leadership and subject award. She is currently preparing for her ARCT violin exam.

ZOE CLARKE, violin 4
Zoe Clarke is 12 years old and has been playing the violin since she was 4. She studies with her grandfather, Tak Ng Lai and more recently, her mother Joyce Lai. Last year Zoe completed her Grade 10 Royal Conservatory of Music exam with first class honours. In addition to being a member of the CSYO violin section, Zoe also plays in the York Chamber Ensemble and performs regularly with her brother and parents in their family string quartet. Zoe is a grade 7 student at Glenview Senior Public School where she is in the French Immersion program.

NOAH CLARKE, cello
Noah Clarke is 14 years old and has been studying with Andras Weber since he was six. He is currently working on his Grade 10 RCM cello exam. Noah also plays piano and is preparing his for his ARCT exam with his grandmother Aster Lai. In addition to playing in the CSYO, Noah also plays in the York Chamber Ensemble and in his family string quartet. Noah is a grade 9 French Immersion student at Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute where he also plays the trumpet in the school band and orchestra.
